Circlet of Telepathy

This slender band of polished pewter is set with a single cabochon of milky moonstone that rests against the wearer's forehead. Faint silver runes spiral around the inside of the band; though they appear inert, those nearby sometimes report a faint pressure behind the eyes when the circlet is in use.

While wearing the circlet, you can communicate telepathically with any creature you can see within 120 feet, regardless of whether you share a language. The communication is one-way unless the target chooses to respond; willing targets can reply with their own thoughts. Unwilling or unaware targets simply hear your "voice" in their mind and may be startled or alarmed depending on circumstance.

Short rest, swift action; you may extend telepathic contact to a creature you cannot see but whose name and general location you know, provided they are within 1 mile. The contact lasts up to 1 minute, during which you may exchange a brief conversation. The target always knows that the communication is telepathic and may refuse to respond.

The circlet does not allow you to read surface thoughts or compel responses; it is a channel for communication only.
