Cap of the Mind Flayer

This unsettling cap is made from the cured cranial hide of an illithid, complete with four limp, leathery tentacles that hang down past the wearer's jaw. The skin is a deep mauve, cool and faintly damp no matter how dry the air. Wearers describe a constant low-level pressure inside their skull, as though they are being politely listened to by something patient and very hungry.

While wearing the cap, you gain telepathy out to 60 feet with any creature you can see that has an Intelligence score of 4 or higher. You can also detect the presence and approximate intelligence of thinking minds within 60 feet, even through walls (but not lead or thicker than 2 feet of stone).

Recharge 33%, std action, cone 5; you unleash a Mind Blast, causing medium psychic damage plus stun (Cha ends, DC 19). Creatures immune to psychic damage or to charm/mind effects are unaffected. Constructs and undead without minds are unaffected.

Once per short rest, you may attempt to extract a single specific memory or fact from a willing or helpless creature within 5 feet as a standard action. The target must succeed on a Wis save (DC 19) to resist; on a failure, you learn the requested information clearly and accurately. The target is aware of the intrusion afterward.
