Glide
Gliding is a controlled descent through the air on wings, membranes or magic. A glide speed is written with its glide ratio: Glide 6 (10:1) means you move up to 6 squares horizontally per move action, descending 1 square for every 10 squares you travel. When no ratio is given it is 5:1; when no speed is given it equals your walking speed.
While gliding you slow fall: you never take falling damage, and you land safely at the end of any descent. You cannot gain altitude by gliding, so a glide always begins from a height — a ledge, a jump, or a fall already underway. You can begin gliding as a free action whenever you are falling, which turns any fall into a slow fall.
Gliding is a step below Levitate, Fly and Hover, and many effects grant it first and the others as they grow stronger. If you become unconscious, paralyzed or petrified while gliding, you fall normally; being knocked prone or grappled ends the glide, but you still slow fall.
